Now that thats taken care of lets get down to the good stuff!!
This Door is a Production of Blue Foxx Software. At some later date in
time it will cease to operate. This is what is known as a cripple door,
honesty has always been the best policy but sometimes a small reminder
never hurt. I would have liked to distribute these doors as open as possible
but it seems that some people would like to test the doors for a period that
went into years. If these doors had a warranty period it would have been up
long ago. Anyways I have begun distributing these doors like this so that
everyone will have a few months to determine if it is what they want or not.
If you have any ideas on improving this or any other door that I have wrote,
please feel free to tell me. I'm always looking for suggestions, good or bad.
See the end of this DOC on how to register:
Now on to the good stuff:
All major changes will be marked <NEW>. These should be read as they
may contain information that if not included properly may cause the
door not to operate.
Any other changes were considered to minor to document or place within
this documentation.
The following files should be included in this package:
WG*.EXE Main game program
WORDGAME.DOC Sysop information. What you are now reading.
WORDGAME.DAT Starting list of words for the game
WORDGAME.INS The instructions file (In Ascii) for players.
WORDGAME.CFG Sample Config file for Spitfire Sysops
Files you provide:
BRUN45.EXE This must be a patched copy and must be in your PATH
(Any patched copy will do, but one should have been
included with this door)
SFDOORS.DAT File created By SPITFIRE BBS in the SF directory when
a user goes into a door. (Not needed to Run From DOS!)
I suggest you rename the main file to WORDGAME.EXE This will help you
to keep track of the associated programs and also make it easier if you
add a newer version. You will not have to change your BAT/Monitor files
in the future, if you start off with a name such as this. All other files
MUST NOT BE RENAMED or an error may result.
THESE FILE MUST NOT BE DELETED OR THE GAME WILL NOT RUN LOCAL OR OTHERWISE!
IF ANY OF THESE FILES IS ACCIDENTLY DESTROYED THE FOLLOWING SHOULD HELP YOU
TO REBUILD THEM.
Files created as the door needs them:
WORDGAME.PLY The Players Score file
*.DAY Created each new day to keep track of how many times a
player can play each day.
WORDGAME.ERR File containing any ERRORS encountered in the game!
WORDGAME.BAD File containing names of users who drop carrier!
STEP 1:
THE CONFIG FILE
The setup for the CFG file is different from previous versions!
Please read the information in the Sample CFG for Quick Setup!
You MUST have a separate CFG file for EACH node you are running!
This is mainly to find the DOOR.DAT file that contains the
information for each user.
Your config file should contain the folowing:
UNREGISTERED Your registration number if you have one
BBSTYPE SPITFIRE only supported at this time
BBSNAME The Name of YOUR BBS
SYSOPFIRST The Sysops First Name
SYSOPLAST The Sysops Last Name
c:\xxx\doorinfo.xxx PATH AND NAME to your DOORS.DAT information file
60 Time a user can be in the door (subject to time left)
c:\xxx\xxx\color.bul PATH AND NAME for the Color Bulletin (NONE if none)
c:\xxx\xxx\mono.bul PATH AND NAME for the Mono Bulletin (NONE if none)
U Number of times a user can enter the door each day.
U is unlimited times
Change the U to a 1,2,3 etc to limit number of plays
This door will automatically LOCK DTE when required. It has only been tested
to speeds of 19,200 baud!
I suggest you name the config file similar to other game files ex:*.DAT.
If you want to run this Door local/from DOS the *.CFG file MUST be named
like the other files used in this door!
Ex... WORDGAME.CFG
This will also help you to keep better track of the related files.
STEP 2:
DATA FILES:
Just copy all of the above files into the directory that you wish to
run the door from. Only ONE config file is necessary and you can name
it however you like. All other files must retain their original names.
Again if you wish to run this door in local mode (from DOS) you must
name the cfg file with the same filename as the other related files!!
Layout for the *.INS file:
This is a strickly ASCII TEXT file with nothing special in it!
If I have left out something in the instructions please feel
free to add your own comments.
Layout for the *.DAT file:
This file is a ASCII TEXT file containing the following:
### <=- Number of words in list
##,Wordone,NAME <=- ## means how many times it has been
correctly guessed, a minus means
it has been missed ## of times
Use U for Unacceptable words
or words you wish to "lock-out"
etc.. <=- Continue until ### reached
(All words must be a minimum of 5 letters)
(No hyphens or spaces are allowed)
Layout for the *.PLY file:
## <=- Number of Players (not including Champs)
Top Champ , Score , Date <=- Name of Top Champ a comma Top Score comma
and a date 10-01-89
Last Champ, Score , Date <=- Name of Last Champ a comma Last Score comma
and a date 10-01-89
Player 1, Score, Date <=- Names, Scores and Dates of Players
There must be one Player initially or the
the game will not work the first time.
The PLY file will be created if it is NOT found!
BRUN45.EXE must be in your path somewhere. Also it must be patched for
DTR or the door may drop carrier on the caller when entering. It will
work fine locally but not remote. Any patched copy will usually do and
if it is in your path then you will only need ONE copy anywhere on your
drives!!
STEP 3:
STARTING THE GAME:
This is the easiest part.
<NEW> A. LOCAL or from DOS:
Just type the name of the door and a space then the word
local. Actually you no longer need to type local since the
door will automatically check for you now.
ex. WORDGAME local
(NOTE:)
To have the door function properly from DOS in local
mode you MUST have the CFG file named WORDGAME.CFG
and present in the same directory as the EXE file!
If the CFG file cannot be found the door will
exit with an ERROR 52 in the *.ERR file.
B. AS A DOOR first you must Change Directory (CD or CHDIR) into
the directory containing the door. Then type the name of the
door ,a space, and the name of your config file.
ex. CD \DOOR
WORDGAME WORDGAME.CFG
remember to change back to your calling directory with a CD
on the line following the one that calls the door.
ex:
E:
cd e:\sf\door
doorname doorname.cfg
cd e:\sf
multi-node ex:
E:
cd e:\sf\door
doorname door2.cfg
cd e:\sf2
Most Sysops will already be familiar with their BBS Doors and
will only have to add the above lines into whatever batch file
or door monitor file that will eventually call the door.
And there you have it.. If I have left anything out or if you have any
suggestions for this or future doors....
